The Pink Lagoon

The Picture was taken in the Lagunas de la Mata and Torrevieja, a Spanish protected natural area located in the province of Alicante. The lagoons have been used for salt production since 1321. The reddish-pink color of the salt water is due to Dunaliella, a type of microscopic algae that are capable of living in saline environments. The ruins are part of the old warehouses.
