The Plassey Shipwreck on Inis Oirr, Aran Islands
The Plassey was a cargo ship that was carrying whiskey, yarn, and stained glass just off Ireland's coast near the Aran Islands (County Galway) in March 1960 when it got caught in a severe storm. The storm caused the ship to strike Finnish Rock on Inis Oirr, and the crew had to abandon ship. A second storm, two weeks later, pushed the ship up onto the island. According to local legend, the locals were able to claim any cargo that remained on the ship!
