People in Carpathian make the aromatic otava—the finest, quality cattle hay in the Carpathians which is high in protein. Haymaking has always been closely intertwined with the people in the Carpathians. However, today there is a rapid degradation of ancient skills and traditions that die with the elderly and the migration of young people from rural to urban areas.
