This portrait creates a historical dialogue with monarchies of the past. The picture is of an inanimate object (a doll) which symbolizes on the one hand the preservation of tradition and on the other hand the fact that this tradition has passed from the world. Vis-a-vis this image I try to look at other aspects of the aristocracy i.e. melancholy and darkness despite their beauty, youth and wealth. This confliction causes the viewer to think and reexamine history as well as life and our priorities.
