15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
the red sea fan

I'm an extremely slow diver and when I have my camera, I cover very little distance. On the lookout for particular patterns and structures, I meticulously scan my environment, also at night. This is a macro shot of a Red Sea Fan. The branches have many very small white polyps that are usually only seen at night.
