20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
The Rocket City at Night

As you drive down I-565 into Huntsville, Alabama you come across an iconic symbol of our nations space history. The towering Satern V rocket once allowed humans to explore the moon and beyond and is the only vehicle that carried humans to low Earth orbit. Although now retired, you can view this beauty on the grounds of the Space and Rocket Center. It is a true testament of U.S. history, space exploration, and of the human spirit.
