When coming down Mauna Kea, HI, I saw these old trees dispersed across the meadows. Surrounded by fog, I saw a story unfold in which these ancient trees were running away from the descending lava. In my imagination, like Tolkien's Ents, they were characters in a story that began long before me and one that still much to say.
