The Sacred Portal

The centennial trees of the sacred forest surrounding the Meiji Shrine in the beating heart of Tokyo's megapolis seem to draw a portal to another world with their branches, as if it were an ancient sumi-e painting. That portal in the treetops, illuminated by the dying light of autumn, was a interesting setting for the ephemeral flight of a carrion crow, which in Japanese mythology is the messenger of the sun goddess, Amaterasu.
