During a sunset visit at the summit of Maunakea, the light turns the iron ore in the lava to a russet orange color making one feel like they have traveled to another planet. You are on top of the world here, at 14,000 feet. The view of snow while visiting Hawaii in the Spring also is such a surreal experience.
