The trail to Castle Namgyal Tsemo

The flutter of the prayer flags, the magnificent view of a sunbathed mud-coloured structure, the hairpin bends that form the trail to the top capture one's attention. There stands Castle Namgyal Tsemo (King Namgyal's castle) built in the 15th century). On a hilltop facing Leh Palace in Ladakh's capital, the trek up to the castle is an out-of-breath (literally too!) experience in itself.
