20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
the trees in California are different.
I just absolutely loved how sunlight brought the forest to life. The hundreds of tones of green, very light ones under the sunbeams in the center and then dark and darker ones close to the edges of the image... When I shot this at the Jackson State Forest (California), I did not pay much mind. To be honest, I had pulled over to piss lol Years later, homesick as heck, I decided to go through my files from this trip and came across this photograph. Its raw unfiltered unedited beauty brought me so much peace, so much comfort.
