The Trusting Duck

One day I went outside to sit on my dock to get some fresh air. It was a cloudy day in July, there was barely any wind and it was very peaceful. I sat there for a while and enjoyed the sounds that came from the water. Peaceful, calm and rythmic waves. But suddenly there was a flapping noise and a splash. I looked over to the source of the noise and saw that a duck had just landed not too far away from me. It kept swimming towards me until it stepped on the dock. I was very surprised at how close the duck was getting. Eventually it stood right next to me and looked up at me. Maybe I had made the duck angry, there could have been chicks nearby. But there were no chicks, no anger. It simply sat down next to me and went to sleep. I don't think I have ever felt so trusted before. That duck had never seen me before but had no problem drifting off to sleep. It was a truly wholesome moment that I will always hold on to.
