“The Unarmed”

The artwork photo is Titled "The Unarmed," which depicts the number of high-profile police cases from 2014-2017 in which Black Males and One Female were killed and/or died in police custody. The work shows only 46 deaths; names are listed on small grave markers for remembrance. The project was created to bring attention to the number of African Americans (well over 120 people during the same period) who have died and continue to pass with little to no information about the cause other than police intervention. It brings to mind the words of the great Martin Luther King, Jr. - "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." Artwork by: Skip Smith
