In July 2015 I shot this photo in Hasakah, Syria of two members of the Syriac Military Council (MFS), an Assyrian-Christian militia that mights along sides the Kurds against ISIS. The two men are trying to spot ISIS militants positioned about 500 meters away. The man on the left, his face, his hands, his gaze, perfectly represent his role as mentor to the young and relatively inexperienced fighters.
