20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Thelma and Louise

Thelma and Louise are a pair of Lavender Orpington hens whom, it seemed, were an impulse purchase by someone who didn’t have an adequate area in which they could live. Fortunately, she realized her mistake early, and it worked out that our local animal sanctuary could accommodate them. They’ve lived together at the sanctuary for two years now –- always together, bonded friends. They dust bathe, run around chasing insects, and rest side by side. They’re very sweet.
