theyyam makeup
theyyam is a centuries old ritual in remote villiages in north kerala, india which is not generally accessable to the public. the make up takes hours and the colours are from trees and leaves, flowers etc. there are 400 different theyyams and each has a different make up.. the photo shows the make up in progress in a hut within the villiage temple. lighting is low and the image is taken with the light of a single bulb.
