Thin Ice and Ice Skates

4am wake up call...coffee to drown down the cursing. Into the cold car, drive two hours to catch the dawn dissipate the fog. Check the ice: 2-3 inches overnight. Strap on the skates...don’t stop moving for the next 10 hours. Took this shot just as it started to get dark on the 3rd lake we skated on this incredible day in the cold mountains. It's fairly rare to have a chance to skate on wild mountain lakes before the falling snow covers them; this was one of those absolutely magical days.
