Thompson Point Shoal Light in the Chesapeake Bay
Commerce up the Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore was a key to our national growth and the shallows often claimed merchant ships. This screwpile cottage-type lighthouse, funded by the US Congress, was constructed in 1875. It was the last lighthouse with a residential light keeper on the bay, abandoned in 1964...then automated in 1986.
