Three orcas in Chatham Strait
A pod of orcas (killer whales) approached the boat, moving under and around us for a few minutes. Orcas are fairly elusive in S.E. Alaska so to have them actually approach and display playful behavior was quite a treat. A common misconception is that they are members of the whale family. They are, in fact, the largest mammal in the dolphin family.
