Tibetan old lady was walking on the snow

We were touring high altitude mountain (3000 to 4000m) and Ulley valley of Ladakh in India in the winter. It was -5 to 30 F. Everywhere was quiet and covered with snow. When we passed the very small village by car, suddenly I saw 2 tibetan ladies showed up. One of ladies was walking through the snow with walking stick. Her face showed that she has been here in her lifetime and was a harsh condition to live. She worn a traditional Tibetan dress. I felt that Tibetan people are strong and can survive under those tough environment. What makes them so strong? Faith? I really admire them.
