At Jim Corbett TR, Ramganga River provides lifeline to the flora and fauna. the Ramganga is more than a mere river, it’s a living thing... a beautiful living thing that nurtures creatures ranging from elephants to ants and all the flying, buzzing, creeping, swimming things in between. This river water is good to drink. The gharials in this river approve of the mahseer and goonj fish. And lest I forget... with climate change having arrived in India, the water of this river will save millions of lives, together with other rivers in other forests that feed the river Ganges. Resident tigress "Paarwali" prowls the area known as "Sambar Road" on the bank of the river. In one particular afternoon, while waiting for her in the fast reducing winter light, we found her stalking a large group of Sambar Deer. She made her move after a while but the experienced Sambars anticipated this. They ran for their life towards the other side of the river. The Tigress gave up and decided to cross the river calmly under the watch of the ever alert Sambars. They live to see another day! Location: Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand, India.
