Time to say goodby

Smith Island, an island twelve miles from shore in the Chesapeake Bay, is subject to two environmental factors. This shot shows the effect of land subsidence on the island, where the island is naturally sinking. These houses are raised on pillars of cinderblock but the land around them is reverting to marshland, resulting in them being abandoned. Rising water is more often seen than not, as houses are set between empty lots of high water.
