This photo is a part of a series i recently finished. This work revolves around a a lonely, hot and dusty town in the middle of an North American desert: the city of Wendover and its surrounding Salt Flats. After about 2 hours driving from Salt Lake City to Nevada, distant casinos emit an eerie glow that one might easily mistake for a quick stop to get some gas or food. With its truck stops, motels, gas stations, environmental compromise, casinos and world record attempts, for an outsider it is about as American as it gets. Wendover is situated just across the border with Nevada, making it legal gambling grounds. The casino’s fill up with people escaping Utah and others travelling to Las Vegas having a quick stop before heading off for more coin clinging and slot machines. But more importantly, it is internal combustion Mecca. Each year the salt flats of Bonneville are witness to devoted speed-seek ers from all over the world, visiting the salt for the sole purpose of competing for the title of fastest man on the land. I have been traveling back and forth for 3 consecutive years trying to document the capital of land speed racing. Due to the event getting rained out each year upon arrival, I was stranded in Wendover. It was only then I intuitively started to capture the daily life of this ambiguous mid-western town. Its barren landscapes and superficialness possess a kind of loneliness and beauty that I tried to document trough aesthetics and graphic compositions.
