To Peace and Unity, The Peace Monument, Peace Circle, Washington, DC, Erected 1877
The Peace Monument was erected in 1877-1878 on Peace Circle, First St. and Pennsylvania Avenue, on the United States Capitol grounds, Washington, DC. It commemorates the naval deaths at sea during the United States Civil War, 1861-1865. It was erected twelve years following the close of the war.
