19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Top of the world in Switzerland

After riding the world's steepest cogwheel railway, 48%, one can climb even higher to obtain a "top of the world" view including Lake Lucern and many mountains of Switzerland. In addition, there were musicians playing traditional Swiss music, dragon caves, steep hiking trails to leave the mountain, weather stations, and giant cable cars to transport you back down the mountain. Before you left the mountain, there are ice caves with carved ice sculptures and ice slides to explore.
