Gorilla tourism is proving the most effective way to preserve habitat for Eastern Mountain Gorillas and prevent lost of this critically endangered species to poaching. The dollars paid by tourists to visit the apes helps maintain the national park, brings the government funding for projects, and employs locals. Government projects such as schools and home roof subsidies, along with employment, help discourage poaching and illegal farming on habitat areas. I was part of a group of eight tourists visiting a gorilla family with our two guides. I shot this couple as a guide was taking their picture with a 440 pound male looking on.
