Towering Over the Steppe
Walking across the high-altitude steppe of Bayan Ulgii, a Kazakh woman returns to her ger (yurt). Covered in felt, Kazakh gers are almost identical to other Mongolian gers except for the significantly higher pitch of their ceiling support beams. This means the gers are much more comfortable for Westerners but also get colder more quickly.
