Train heading into the storm

This particular area, between the San Jacinto Mountains, and the San Bernardino Mountains, called the San Gorgornio Pass, is a relatively flat area making passage by car, and trains. Even planes use this route while traveling towards Los Angeles. This photograph shows a freight train traveling west, towards the Port of Los Angeles. Trains played a key role in America's westward expansion, and they still play a key role in modern America today.
