Trieste Police Funeral

On 4th October 2019 two police officers - Pierluigi Rotta and Matteo De Menego - were shot and killed in a shootout inside Trieste's police station. I spent the day photographing the memorial service at the station, where fresh and raw grief poured from the faces of police officers, who cried for their fallen friends and wiped tears from their eyes. This image represents both the sadness and painful emptiness of the atmosphere at the memorial. Mourning and grieving police officers, usually images of unbreakable authority, now broken and cracked and vulnerable.
