13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Trillium Lake with Mt. Hood in background located in Oregon.
Trillium Lake is located 7.5 miles southwest of Mt Hood. It is formed by a dam at the headwaters of Mud Creek, tributary to the Salmon River. The lake is popular for fishing, camping and photography, often clearly reflecting Mount Hood. Although the views are postcard perfect, the hiking trail provides access to view all of the wetland flowers around the lake and view the towering trees in the Mt Hood National Forest.
