20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Tufted Titmouse and Downy Woodpecker

The Downy woodpecker had been eating suet in the morning on a partly cloudy day in our backyard. The Tufted Titmouse had originally been perched on the edge of an orange colored tray containing black oiled sunflower seeds on the feeder below. I cropped around the Tufted Titmouse photo and layered it on the top rim of the hanging pumpkin in photo shop while erasing around the edges. It was a time consuming project, and I am not an expert by any means but thought it would fit for the Artistic category. I photographed both morning and afternoon shots through the window on the same day.The hanging pumpkin in my imagination needed an "object of interest "the Tufted Titmouse" for the woodpecker who briefly turned its head in the right direction with a quizzical look on her face.
