15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World

Cattle will often scratch their thick, dirty, dusty hides on a convenient barbed wire fence, leaving tufts of hair behind. The scene serves as a memorial to cows that are no longer alive. For this site that was abandoned many decades ago.
