19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Tuktoyaktuk, Land of the Pingos
Evening sunset in Tuktoyaktuk Nt, Canada. Very late freeze up this year due to climate changes. It also seems like the pingo is shrinking as the permafrost is melting. 10 years ago it was the 2nd largest pingo in the world, not so sure of that now. It seemed to have dropped a bit, permafrost is melting faster and faster, faster than anyone would ever think.
