13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Tully Hole
This photo of Tully Hole was taken during a thru-hike of the John Muir Trail. To me, long distance hiking through the wilderness is the epitome of sustainable travel. "Leave no trace" ethics combined with self-reliance while walking hundreds of miles in the wilderness - can travel get more sustainable than that? Because of this sustainability, this wilderness will stay as pristine as this photo for generations to come.
