Like so many ghost towns in the West, Atomic City, Idaho, was once a boomtown, invigorated by top-secret research into atomic energy at the nearby Idaho National Laboratory. However, after some nuclear accidents, the population declined rapidly during the 1960s, leaving once-lively venues such as the Twin Buttes as mute testimony to passing time and changing priorities.
