I had envisioned a shot of bison walking through the cold morning air as dampness hung in the air and created a foggy effect while being illuminated by the morning sun as it crested the distant mountains. I had been in Grand Teton National Park for a week and had yet to witness the right conditions for my photographic vision. Then, on my last day in the park, when I had just about given up hope, I saw it all come together. Just a few hundred yards from the entrance to the campground where I was staying a herd of bison were crossing the meadow. I drove down before sunrise and set up my camera. I had no idea I would not only see my photographic vision in front of me but two of the bison decided to stop and spar for a brief moment. It was long enough to kick up some dust into the air that was already thick with light fog.
