Two young children in a Himba village. Children mainly wear traditional clothing and jewellery. Young boys stay in the villages until they are old enough to form tight knit groups with other young men and either travel to their cattle outposts or look for work. Girls, like the women, remain in the villages and support one another. As girls grow they will arrange their hair in two forward facing plaits until they are of age to wear the long elaborate decorative braids. Children are raised by the women who form strong bonds of support with one another in the absence of men.
