16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Under a Dark and Stormy Sky
A storm was brewing with dramatic dark clouds between open patches of blue sky. The drama in the skies of the Maasai Mara create a dynamic scene and contrast for what would have been a commonplace viewing of lions resting in the grass.
