Walking under the El in Chicago can connote a lot of associations. Culturally, from the Blues Brothers movies to Stuart Dybek stories, and personally from your childhood trips to the big city with your parents, and later with your friends and solo. But there is also the structure itself. The physicality of it and how it fits into its surroundings (more concrete and metal), free of any cultural or personal associations. At this particular spot, it struck me how strongly the visual elements of the structure and its surroundings harmonized.
