Under the Glacier
An ode to the 1968 novel by Nobel Laureate Halldór Laxness (though the novel takes place at a different glacier in Iceland). I have been obsessed with this tiny country since my childhood, having a father who used to frequent the island for work. I had been saving up for this trip for years, and the place highest on my list was the black sand beach of Vík. Taken en route to Vík í Mýrdal in July of 2017, this was when we were passing Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull.
