I was walking around DC's Union Station near sunset when the lighting started hitting the upper portion of the building -- highlighting the statues and inscriptions located there that most people miss was they pass through this busy train station (METRO, MARC, and AMTRAK use this station). This building is an excellent example of the the role trains have played in American history. As noted by Wikipedia, Union Station is also a current example of the role trails still play in America: "Opened in 1907, it is Amtrak's headquarters and the railroad's second-busiest station with annual ridership of just under 5 million and the ninth-busiest in overall passengers served in the United States."
