United Farm Worker union protest during a strike against the Wonderful Company
Much of what the United Farm Worker union does goes unreported. One example occurred on January 11, 2019, ten miles north of Bakersfield, in a gigantic orange grove owned by Beverly Hills billionaire Stewart Resnick, whose Wonderful Company is the largest grower of fruit in the United States. Wonderful had just cut wages. On a freezing cold morning a single UFW organizer appeared, and in minutes formed hundreds of workers into an efficient picketing operation that shut down the harvest.
