Lombardy is a densely populated area in North Italy with about 10 million inhabitants. Its death toll during the COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the highest in the world with 33,416 fatalities as of May 19, 2021. On October 25, 2020, as the second wave crept in, I gathered my camera and went to the Monumentale Cemetery of Milan where I made encounters and lived moments of intense humanity.
