23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Wildlife
Upfront

It was a quiet morning in Solio Conservancy and the mood was one of peaceful contentment. It seemed to be reflected in the rhinos who were either quietly grazing or resting, except for these two. I thought it would be fascinating to show these two rhinos and their double horns clearly and majestically in one photograph. The bonus is that one can also see that the white rhino is protean in looks. Rhinos have survived as a species for millions of years but it may be that they cannot survive mankind.
