Upland Sandpiper poses at dusk

I was exploring the Jack Pine country in northern Michigan's Montmorency County, which is a very birdy habitat. It is best known as the nesting habitat for the rare Kirtland's Warbler, but there are many other birds to be found. One of which is the Upland Sandpiper. They like to perch on snags, and I am always on alert for them. On this day, as the sun was setting, I noticed a distant bird atop a gnarled old Jack Pine skeleton, and was rewarded with this shot.
