Vancouver Island Black Bear, Tofino BC

This Vancouver Island Black Bear was photographed on a 'bear tour' that embarked from the town of Tofino, BC. The tour included about 12 people on a seaworthy Zodiac, where the guide would pull the boat relatively close to the shore of Vancouver Island where we could watch bears scavenge the beach for crabs. It was truly amazing to see these beautiful and massive creatures carefully turning over stones to catch tiny little crabs one by one. This one bear had taken a moment to drink from a fresh water pool that had accumulated in a rock thanks to overnight rains.
