Vanishing mangrove forest in the morning mist, Bako National Park, Sarawak, Borneo

The ethereal silhouettes of the mangrove trees against the morning fog and mountain peaks are magical and mysterious. Unfortunately, this remarkable scene displays the death of a mangrove forest at the Bako National Park in Sarawak, Borneo. According to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), global destruction of mangrove forests impacts biodiversity, food security, and the livelihoods of some of the most vulnerable communities and environments in the world.
