17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Varied Thrush perched in our Rhododendron bush.
Taken in late February when the Varied Thrushes return through Oregon on their migration back to Alaska. I had just gotten my Canon Power Shot camera and was thrilled to have so many of these elegant birds around to photograph.
