Vaxa Impact Nutrition micro-algae photobioreactor
»We are basically a technological company, not a food-producing one,« told me Mr. Kristinn Haflidason, the CEO of Vaxa Impact Nutrition, showing me hundreds of shining multicoloured tubes all aflow with micro-algae. Vaxa Impact Nutrition is using these plants to create food supplements (omega 3, omega 7...) and plant protein as a food source for both humans and animals. Mr. Kristinn monitors one of their photobioreactors in the micro-algae production facility which uses heat and electricity from the nearby Hellisheidi geothermal power and CO2 from nearby ORCA plant for the growth of their micro-algae.
