13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Vertigo
On a solo week-long trip to San Francisco, I explored the city of post-card photographs through day-long walks up and down its hilly streets. Along one of my walks I ended up on the Golden Gate Bridge. It felt like meeting a celebrity. I leaned over the railing and saw the waves below me, then slowly up at the towering crimson steel overhead. Made me feel dizzy.
